Two Copepods <i>Salmincola edwardsii</i> and <i>Salmincola markewitschi</i> (Lernaeopodidae) Parasitic on Chars (<i>Salvelinus</i> spp.) Reared in a Salmon Museum, Northern Japan

Specimens of two species lernaeopodid copepods, Salmincola edwardsii (Olsson, 1869) and markewitschi Shedko Shedko, 2002, were collected from chars (Salvelinus spp.) reared in exhibition tanks the Sapporo Salmon Museum, Hokkaido, Japan. Descriptions these copepods are provided using specimens. In 1988, adult females S. found on gills southern Asian Dolly Varden, Salvelinus malma krascheninnikova Taranetz, 1933, those buccal cavity whitespotted char, leucomaenis (Pallas, 1814), Nikko pluvius (Hilgendorf, 1876), brook trout, fontinalis (Mitchill, 1814). These considered to have been introduced museum late 1980s along with wild transported live natural waters Hokkaido. Adult manually removed forceps once or twice a year chars, but such infrequent practices not effective eliminate markewitschi, which was thus again 2020. contrast, completely eliminated by stopping rearing an infected population this parasite is host-specific.
